MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE MISSION

The IOA Membership Committee serves the membership of IOA by accepting and processing membership applications and renewals in a consistent and efficient manner; by recognizing the interests of the various sectors of the profession; and by seeking to grow the organization worldwide.  Provision of IOA membership services and benefits are a priority, since the committee recognizes the Association could not exist without its members of all categories.

PRIORITIES

• Process member applications effectively
• Provide orientation/support for new members with new member packets including certificate of membership, information on IOA trainings and other offerings.
• Build stronger member participation in the Association
• Maintain and update Membership materials

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• The IOA membership committee met and exceeded its assigned 2010-2011 operating budget while stabilizing a decline in membership (1.5%) to 646 members based on the economic environment.
• The IOA Mentoring Program has over 50 experienced members who volunteer their time to mentor a new IOA member who has been a practicing ombudsman for less than one year.  The IOA Mentoring Program made 20 new mentor/mentee matches in 2010, taking the total to 41 matches since the inception of the program in 2008. The Mentoring Program was led by Vicky Brown with the support of team members Claudia D’Albini and Mary Chavez Rudolph. Thanks to Vicky, for without her vision and nurturing of the program it would have never experienced such success.  Look for some changes such as expansion of the team and inclusion of retirees in 2011.
• A New Member’s event was held at the 2010 annual conference in New Orleans, LA, to promote networking and education about IOA.
• The 2011 New and Renewal membership application forms were redone to simplify and condense information for ease of use.
• A new final renewal email reminder was created and sent to members who had not renewed in 2010.  Information was requested on the reasons for non-renewal to use for analysis for future outreach and IOA offerings.
