About the Webinar

This webinar will provide Ombud’s support staff with a better understanding of the standards of practice (IOA) and how these principles impact how each support person performs their role. In addition, the session will provide insight into best practices for working with visitors, formal channels, managing the office and building awareness of the Ombud’s Program in a variety of organizations.

Learning Objectives

  • How to effectively deal with all types of visitors who use the Ombuds Program
  • How to build awareness of what the Ombuds service provides
  • How to effectively protect confidentiality, neutrality, informality, and independence as a support person in an Ombuds Program.
  • How to work effectively with internal partners while remaining independent, neutral and informal.

Presenters

Wendy Friede
Wendy Friede is currently Principal of Friede Consulting Services, LLC where she assists organizations to establish and grow their Ombuds functions; evaluate their internal issue resolution systems and in some cases serves as the organizational Ombuds.  She has worked with corporations, academic institutions, government agencies and non-profit groups. In addition, she coaches leaders and teams on building their effectiveness. Wendy previously was the Corporate Ombudsperson for American Express and was with this team from its inception in 1995 until 2007. She is based in Minnesota.  Wendy served as a member of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA) Board of Directors for two terms, and also served on the CO-OP Board of Directors and was its' President. She served as chair of the Professional Development Committee for TOA and IOA for eight years. Wendy has been an instructor in the IOA Ombudsman Foundations Course, as well as many other courses.

Participants will earn 1.5 PDHs upon completion of this webinar.
