The purpose of this session is to discuss how to apply two models of t rust so ombuds can work more effectively with groups, both to prevent as we ll as after the impact of an escalated conflict. Participants will review P atrick Lencioni’s team model as well as Google’s Project Aristotle results and explore case studies where the lessons from these models have been used to address group issues. The goal of this trust-building work is to create psychologically safe workplaces and have more effective teams. Participant s will identify how to assess and match specific activities to group situat ions and discuss the application of these models in their organizations. As a result of this session, participants will add group work tools and will understand when, what, how, and who to include in a group process.
Rita Callahan, MS, CO-OP
Rita is a Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner (C
O-OP) ®, has a Master’s in Decision Science, and a certification from the I
nstitute for Organizational Development. Rita has over twenty years’ experi
ence as an organizational ombud and conflict resolution consultant providin
g conflict management, collaboration, leadership, and team development serv
ices as a neutral third party. Rita has had Organizational Ombuds positions
within the government, universities, and academic healthcare environments.
Her current position is at the University of California San Francisco (UCS
F), where she works with staff, faculty, students, trainees, groups, teams,
research labs, and all members of the UCSF community. Additionally, Rita w
orks with FEMA at UCSF and UC Davis, National Institutes of Health. She wor
ks with individuals, teams, departments, and organizations so people can co
mmunicate and work better together, especially when repairing a conflict or
misunderstanding. Rita provides services in conflict management, coaching,
mediation, facilitation, training, collaboration, team development, and wo
rkstyle and climate assessments. She has provided conflict resolution servi
ces as an internal consultant at the NYC public utility for six years and a
s an external consultant to diverse organizations in different industries f
or thirteen years.
