Congratulations to 2022 Distinguished Emeritus Members

Each year, members are invited to nominate retired colleagues to be honored as Distinguished Emeritus members, in recognition of their outstanding and dedicated service to the organization and profession. This year, we had several such nominations for ombuds who have gone above and beyond. These esteemed members were recognized during the 17th Annual IOA Conference. Please join us in congratulating each of them:

Jenna Brown

Retired, University of Denver, Member Since: 2000

Jenna served for 20 years as Ombuds with the University of Denver, and who demonstrated a remarkable commitment to mentorship, promoting the ombuds practice worldwide, and advancing our profession through publishing and presentations. She was a valued volunteer with the IOA Mentorship Committee, played an important role in establishing the European Network for Ombudsmen in Higher Education, contributed time and expertise to Cal Caucus, and gave numerous trainings for IOA and many other organizations around the globe. 

Isabel Calderon

Retired, Mars, Inc., Member Since: 2006

Isabel served as a dedicated Ombudsman for the last 15 years with Mars, Inc, a previous member of the IOA Board of Directors, IOA Conference Planning Committee, and who is recognized by her peers as the compass by which to navigate when cases become hard to navigate. She was instrumental in reviewing and revising the IOA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, which were recently adopted. 

Glenda Dickson

Retired, Clemson University, Member Since: 2000

Glenda served as the Assistant Ombuds at Clemson University for more than 20 years and was known by many as the heartbeat of the office. Glenda has served on a number of IOA committees over the years including the Finance Committee, Conference Committee, Membership Committee, and in addition, serving UCOA before the merger with TOA. 

Willem Kweens

Retired, Mars, Inc., Member Since: 2009

Willem played a pivotal role in the Mars ombudsman program as well as the wider ombuds community, co-leading the European Regional Ombudsman Group for many years, as well as serving on the IOA Board of Directors and Finance Committee among others. He is known for his open and empathetic approach, and genuine concern for people and possibilities to find solutions.
